SORTIE

Thursday, August 25th

At the Milton, we had breakfast in the form of bread and margarine for the first time in a long time. At half past eight we asked to call the Varig office in the hotel to make sure that our return journey was confirmed. There was no answer. That is why it did not seem unwise to us to go there ourselves. We arrived a little after nine o'clock. The office appeared to open at nine o'clock. And behold, at a quarter past nine a lady came in for the fourth time in five minutes, helping the customers, in this case us. There were therefore no other customers. Indeed we were registered and what was even better: the plane would leave on time.

We walked around a bit in the center of La Paz, but really didn't have much to look for. So we took a taxi to the airport, where we arrived far too early. The plane took off no more than two hours late. With stopovers in Santa Cruz and Sao Paulo, we arrived in Rio de Janeiro at exactly ten o'clock. On the way there was almost nothing to see because of a mist that hung from La Paz to beyond Santa Cruz.

The connecting plane in Rio de Janeiro was due to leave at ten o'clock, but they had been waiting for us. At breakneck speed we received a boarding card for the connecting plane, in which we then had to wait another 45 minutes.

Sleeping in a plane is not easy, certainly not if the three days before were also spent with a lot of sitting in buses and another plane. Still, I managed to get some sleep for about six hours. To my satisfaction we got to eat chicken in the plane in the evening, but I didn't really feel like it anymore after all the Bolivian pollo's.

We flew to Frankfort in ten hours, where it was apparently quite busy. After spending less than an hour in a parking lane, we landed.

We passed through customs without delay. Hanneke was already ready with the car and after a drive of about six hours we were back home.
